Since 2015 Phoenix Union High District (PUHSD), in partnership with Year Up Arizona, have provided great opportunities for PUHSD graduate and alumni students to close the opportunity divide by providing these young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education. Career opportunities through Year Up Arizona are available in Cyber Security/Network Technology, Help Desk/Desktop Support, Business Operations, and Software Development after just one year of training and interning with Fortune 500 companies like American Express, Bank of American, Wells Fargo, PayPal, GoDaddy, Charles Schwab, Google, and others. With 7,000 unfilled technology vacancies in Arizona, and 1.5 million globally, these graduates stand to eclipse the earning potential of the average Arizona total gross income by 15 – 40 thousand dollars annually.

One of the more successful schools working with Year Up nationally is Metro Tech High School. Metro Tech’s Information Technology and Business Sector Programs produce over 50% of the candidates accepted in each August/September cohort in Arizona. Including the current 2018-2019 cohort group, Metro Tech High School has the highest number of accepted, graduated, and employment placement in the nation, and was recognized by Year Up in January 2018 for their accomplishments.

A surprise visit to the Year Up Arizona campus at Gateway Community College was made by Don Sheldon, Network & Cyber Security Technology teacher at Metro Tech during the month of November 2018, to encourage the students to stay focused as they continue their pursuit to obtain their career goals and dreams. Below are several pictures from the surprise visit.
Lastly, over the 2018 Thanksgiving holiday, ABC News 15 featured a Dual Student from North/Metro Tech named Juan Bustamante, who is currently employed with GoDaddy in North Scottsdale.

Below is a link of the success he has been able accomplish for his family through the PUHSD – Year Up Arizona partnership and program.
